Algebraic Applications of Multiplier Ideals
Robert Lazarsfeld
(University of Michigan at Ann Arbor)

Multiplier ideals are ideals that measure in a somewhat subtle manner the singularities of holomorphic functions or divisors. In recent years, they have found many applications to questions in global complex geometry. Here I will survey some applications to questions in local algebra.
