The Atlante Farnese, roman statue (II century AD) once adorning Caracalla
termae, from a greek original. It represents a giant sustaining
the universe depicted as a globe.
The configuration of constellations in the globe
is based on the lost star catalogue of Ipparco, in which 1030 stars were
classified according to the same criterion followed nowadays.
